Excited to be attending the April 25th NYC premiere of Woman Walks Ahead, starring Jessica Chastain and Sam Rockwell. The movie isn’t very faithful to the true history of Caroline Weldon, but you can find out more about that remarkable woman by reading the new and updated version of my book, WOMAN WALKING AHEAD: IN SEARCH OF CATHERINE WELDON AND SITTING BULL, complete with a brand-new epilogue containing newly uncovered information about Weldon’s early life, failed marriage, scandalous affair, and out-of–wedlock child. The eBook version is available on Amazon or downloadable in iBooks, on Nook, and most other media. Also as an Audiobook. (The hardback is out of print and doesn’t contain the epilogue.)
And here’s a Time Magazine piece about it….
Finally finished the ebook. Really appreciated the way you wrote of your quest of this woman. Had me in tears by the end. Thank you, Eileen. So happy to have a copy of the ebook to enjoy whenever I want.
My pleasure, Gay! Sorry I didn’t see your note earlier.
I have just started reading your ebook of Woman Walking Ahead.
I like how you write about your search for Caroline Weldon. Fascinating. I had seen the movie and wondered about the true story. It kept nagging at me. Who was this woman? I see she has no grave stone. Then I thought, well, does it matter? She is remembered. Her art is appreciated. Just want to say thank you for writing this book.
HI EILEEN
What are your thoughts about Mexicans crossing the boarder into the USA illegally?
Not sure what the question has to do with Woman Walking Ahead, Harvey … Of course I think people should enter the country legally. But I’m not sure why we make it so hard for Mexicans to come to the US to work. Most do jobs that native-born Americans don’t do. We could institute a system that grants legal access and a work permit, if not citizenship. All four of my grandparents were immigrants. I’ve done quite a bit of research, and even people who think their ancestors came here legally probably had ancestors who bribed their way across borders within in Europe (or other continents) and/or entered the US under less-than-legal circumstances.
I will have to get the audio book. I just finished reading your hard copy book obtained from the Kresge Library Oakland University. I wanted to buy the book but it is selling for over $1,200. I loved this book and am so grateful to you for all your time and research that went into telling this story. I came about this page when I put in the question “is the movie based on this book”. I am sorry to hear that the movie does not follow the facts but at least it will lead more people to your book. Thank you for writing this marvelous book!
Thanks, Marilyn! I can’t believe the book is selling for that much. I think booksellers just post any price that comes to mind, in case someone is willing to pay it (can’t think why they would). The digital version (which you can download for under $5 from any site, whether Kindle or Nook or what have you) contains an epilogue full of amazing new discoveries about Weldon. I hope you enjoy it!
I just saw the movie Woman Walking Ahead yesterday, and it brought to mind Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, son I did a very little looking and decided to read this book and do more research on the treatment of the Native American.
Sorry I’ve taken so long to get back to you, Mary Jo. I hope you enjoy my book! I’m hoping you’ll download the new and updated digital version, with the Epilogue’s amazing new information about Caroline Weldon.
